Shannon Birch, coloratura soprano, is a Professor of Voice at Southern Utah University and Dixie State University, also conducting the Women’s Choir at SUU. She has taught voice for over 26 years, previously holding positions at Utah State University and Brigham Young University. With a Masters and Bachelors degree from Brigham Young University in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy, and intensive training from experts in the fields of contemporary and Broadway music, she is able to train students across a wide spectrum of genres. Shannon is currently a Vocology in Practice Authorized Instructor and Research Coordinator for the Vocology in Practice Teaching Network, working closely with world renowned voice scientist Ingo Titze and other experts to bring the ViP network and her students the latest in research and information on voice science and singing in styles from classical to contemporary.
Upon winning Miss Maryland, Shannon attended Oklahoma City University’s School of Performing Arts under full scholarship. Shannon has had extensive experience as a concert artist performing concert arias, soloing in numerous oratorios, and was the soprano soloist in Musica Reservata, an early music ensemble. Operatically, she has performed lead roles in operas including Adele in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Hero in Berlioz’ Beatrice et Benedict, and Norina in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale.
Shannon maintains full private studios in St. George and Cedar City Utah.
