All Professionals, Canada,  Science, Medical & Health Advisor, Speech Language Pathologist, Toronto

BFA BEd MSc SLP (C) CCC-SLP Reg CASLPO

Singer, Singing Voice Specialist, Speech-Language Pathologist (Voice Therapist).

Melanie is a professional singer, a CASLPO-registered, SAC-certified, ASHA-certified Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) who provides voice therapy to professional voice users, and a Singing Voice Specialist (SVS – a designation for a singing teacher who has special training equipping them to work in a medical environment with singers who need rehabilitation).

Melanie has spent her entire life playing with, learning about, and loving the human voice! She obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in vocal jazz performance at Concordia University in Montreal and a Bachelor of Education in senior level music and drama at OISE/University of Toronto before completing her Master of Science degree in speech language pathology at Dalhousie University in Halifax (with a lot of performing and practising in between!)

Melanie is also a member of the Performing Arts Medicine Association (PAMA), the Pan-American Vocology Association (PAVA), and chairs the Voice Interest Group for her provincial speech pathology association, among other voice-related memberships and interests. As well, she regularly gives workshops, lectures at the university in the speech pathology program, and provides mentorship year-round to people interested in the care of the singing voice.

Melanie’s extensive experience as a professional performer combined with her training as a teacher and speech-language pathologist provides her with a unique perspective on voice care. She believes that treating the voice requires treating the whole person, and she is a fierce advocate for prehabilitation, or preventative voice care, to keep artists and voice users in top form.
